The Labuda Family Foundation was looking to reach a broader audience in their efforts to reach out to more needy members of the communities of the Bay Area peninsula. Their focus is on older folks as well as the people served by a variety of social services that are in need of funding help. They came to Simmer to find not just a new name but to discover new ways to talk about the types of grants they offer to people in need.
Shared video website Grouper.com was purchased by Sony and, as part of the site's total makeover, Simmer was engaged to create an exciting new name to represent the "You Can Become A Star!" spirit of the new Crackle.com! In addition we named three of their content channels on the site, for standup comedy, sketch comedy and animation, respectively: High Wire, Moving Targets and Wet Paint.
For Down In Front, comedian Dana Carvey's 48-hour promotion for Netflix online "Instant Watching" feature, Simmer not only was brought in to create the title, but the company's co-founder Marc Hershon helped Dana write material and created the puppets used in some of the promotion.
When TV's übershrink Dr. Phil moved into the romance biz he wrote a new book to mark the occasion. But his publishers needed to move before the book was done so they could get the book into catalogs. Armed with two chapters and an overview of the book, we worked quickly to create the Love Smart title.
When Garmin International introduced a new class of consumer-friendly GPS devices, they wanted a fresh new name to go with their cool new look. nüvi was born to be the friendly companion to the business or leisure traveler on the move.
The 109-year-old Half Moon Bay Review, an award-winning California weekly newspaper serving the Northern California coastside town of Half Moon Bay, recently upgraded both the look of the paper and its website to keep up with the shifting habits of its readership. To that end, they added an online community forum, where readers could interact with the Review's editorial staff and writers, as well as with each other. Wanting something a bit fresher than the various "Town Square", "Town Hall", "Voices" and the other tired phrases often used for such sites, they turned to Simmer. Meeting with the staff of the Review to toss around a wide range of ideas, it was rather short work to distill the essence of what people coming together to talk about issues of the day into a simple yet memorable name.
The name AVAVA was created to visually represent the shape and action of a new construction element used in structures that are not only green but can also be rapidly assembled, ideal for emergency housing needs.
